Hydroware’s near-term science-based target has been approved by the SBTi
Hydroware is proud to announce that its near-term science-based target has been officially validated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This milestone was achieved through a streamlined validation route designed exclusive for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Hydroware’s commitment to the SBTi goals reflects its determination to achieve significant emissions reductions by 2030, aligning with the company’s dedication to sustainability and the objectives of the Paris Agreement, the United Nations treaty aimed at curbing global warming. These near-term targets are part of Hydroware’s climate action journey, with a focus on substantial reductions by 2030.
In December 2024, Hydroware signed the SBTi Commitment Letter and set its SME-specific science-based targets. Following this, the company submitted its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals to SBTi Services, receiving the SBTi approval letter in January 2025.
Hydroware’s approved target:
Our Company commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.
Advancing circular solutions for a sustainable future
Hydroware’s vision is rooted in the principles of the circular economy. The company has long been championing modernisation over complete replacement, to promote a more circular mindset in the lift industry.
“Our goal is to develop long-term sustainable lift solutions where economic viability goes hand in hand with minimising the environmental impact. Having our near-term science-based targets approved by the SBTi marks an important step forward in our sustainability journey, reinforcing our commitment to measurable climate action,” says Birgitta Berglund, Sustainability Manager at Hydroware.
For over 25 years, Hydroware has worked to move the lift industry towards a circular ecosystem by preserving the lift’s material and economic values over a very long period of use. With a vision of driving innovation through future-oriented products and circular business models, the company has always believed that these elements are a prerequisite for taking further steps towards a sustainable world. As part of this commitment, Hydroware has now taken a significant step forward by setting and receiving approval for its near-term science-based emissions reduction targets through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
What is the Science Based Targets initiative?

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
